Two best friends. Two fresh starts. Will old regrets sabotage their second chance?
Janna’s heart is heavy with grief and broken by betrayal. But as she leaves the big city for a quaint midwestern town, the future feels less frightening with her best friend, Shelby, by her side. After landing a job in the local fresh market and the attentions of a handsome architect, she may yet learn to heal old scars…
Shelby loves the position Janna secured for her and the new sense of community, but wishes small-town life wasn’t so lonely. After packing up all she could salvage from her painful past, she endures more than her fair share of bumps on the winding road to recovery. Afraid her heart may be too damaged for real love, she drowns her sorrows in drunken nights at bars.
With new heartaches around every corner, can Janna and Shelby stay true to their friendship and their dream of lasting freedom?
Daring Dreamer is the first book in the Inspiration in Cologne series of women’s fiction novels. If you like brave women, picturesque settings, and second chance romance, then you’ll love Deborah King’s empowering saga.

Review
Janna and Shelby move to Cologne for a new start after their failed marriages. Janna’s secured them both jobs as co-mangers of new grocery store New Age Grocery, the first step in their plan for their shared big dream.

Janna buries her heartache in her work with her determination to make New Age Grocery a success and by studying for a degree in business and marketing in her spare time. Shelby on the other hand uses late nights and plenty of drink to help her through her own heartache.

The last thing Janna wants is anew relationship but when she meets Richard she can’t help but be attracted to him and its not long before she’s falling in love with him. The story unfolds with alternating chapters between Janna and Richard, so I feel it’s a bit misleading when its portrayed as a story about two best friends as all I really learnt about Shelby was that she liked a drink or two.

I didn’t feel a strong connection to Janna, I don’t know why really as she’s very driven and makes a great manager who really seems to value the opinions of both her staff and customers. I didn’t find the romance between Janna and Richard to be believable. There seemed to be too many barriers between them, and I felt there was a lack of chemistry.

One thing I did really enjoy about this book was the descriptions of the New Age Grocery. This place seemed like a food lovers heaven with all its different departments and food available. I love the idea of the anti-pasti platters to go with the wines.

With both Janna and Todd’s mothers suffering from Alzheimer’s this book does has some sensitive moments which I think were handled well by the author.

The book didn’t end quite how I expected given it is the first in a new series. The last couple of chapters felt very rushed and included things which I was expecting to happen later in the series. So it will be interesting to see what happens in the next book, hopefully we’ll find out more about Shelby.
